After the Party

If you had been at my home yesterday for the Open House, you could have made one of each of these cards. The first one uses the palm branch stamp from Tropical party and tropical designer paper.

This second card uses squares of tropical designer paper, as well as a butterfly image from Flight of the Butterfly and a sentiment from the new Level 3 Hostess Set Occasional Quotes.

This last card uses an image from the new stamp set Friends Never Fade.  Other new products include two of the new colors - Daffodil Delight and Marina Mist.  I can already tell these will be favorites of mine!!

Party Day!!!!

Tropical Party #8

Aren't these the CUTEST little items you've seen in awhile?  I thought so and that's why I tried my hand at making them.  I found directions for the tiny purses here and the straw hat and bag here.  I think it's fun to make cute things like this.  The square lattice folder makes the paper look just like a straw purse.

Tropical Party #7

The flower lei idea came from a post on Angie Juda's blog.  I wanted to try creating the lei wreath, and when complete, decided to make it into a card.  Flowers are stamped with Rose Red and Tempting Turquoise.  Card base is So Saffron, and I stamped tropical images in So Saffron ink around card edge for a border.

The grass skirt card was an idea borrowed from Marie at Stamping Inspiration.  My card certainly isn't as involved as hers, but it will give my customers an additional tropical card idea.  The card base is Old Olive card stock.  I cut another strip of Old Olive to use for the grass skirt and just adhered the top of the card stock to the card base.  This leaves the grass part of the paper free to move. Two different tropical designer paper designs were used as well.  Stamped sentiment is from the Perfect Punches stamp set on page 131 of the NEW catalog.

Tropical Party #6

I saw this card and knew that I wanted to replicate it.  What a great all-occasion card!!  My card base is Old Olive card stock.  I matted a piece of tropical design paper with palm branches on top of the card base.  The palm branch is stamped on Whisper White with Old Olive ink.  The vase is punched from So Saffron card stock using the ornament punch and trimming the bottom off.  I then sponged the vase with So Saffron ink to give it a speckled appearance.  The sentiment is from Tiny Tags, stamped on Whisper White with Old Olive ink, then punched out with the Tiny Tag punch.  I also inked the edges with So Saffron.

The idea for this bright card came from here.  I really liked the way Dawn had made her wreath using the palm leaf, as well as the textured piece she tucked behind the center cut out circle.

Tropical Party #5

This card was a prototype of one that we will make at my open house next week.  I found the inspiration at Stamper Dog's blog.  I was looking for a simple make-and-take, but at the same time one with a little class.  I'll post the actual make-n-take after my open house.  I changed the layout a bit to use some tropical designer paper. The dot in the flower center is punched using one of the bitty punches and the flower is run through the Big Shot in the square lattice die folder to give some texture.

Tropical Party #4

I love this bright, cheerful card with a pop of color.  Again, another quick, simple card.  Card base is Rose Red with DSP strip.  I used the new extra-large scallop circle punch for the outer circle (2 3/8 inch) and then sponged with Rose Red ink to make it blend better.  Smaller circle is punched from Tempting Turquoise using the extra-large Scallop Circle punch (1 3/4 inch), then paper pierced.  I LOVE how the two scallop circle punches layer on one another!!  Flower is stamped from Tropical Party stamp set using Rose Red ink then trimmed using a scissor.  I used a white brad for the center of the circle.

Tropical Party #3

Another simple, but striking card today, again using Tropical Party stamp set and tropical DSP.  Card base is Whisper White.  Other cards stock colors are Old Olive, So Saffron and Tempting Turquoise.  I created my own background paper using the palm frond stamp and Old Olive ink on the Old Olive card stock.  Two of my circles were punched from the designer paper, the other three were stamped with images from Tropical Party set and then punched with circle punches.  Birthday sentiment is from the Level 3 hostess Set Occasional Quotes, found on page 14 in the NEW Stampin' Up! catalog.  I got the idea for this card from Julie Dawson on Stampin' Connect, the website for Stampin' Up! demonstrators.

Tropical Party #2

I used to think that a great card had to be complex and complicated to make.  This card was anything but that and I LOVE the results.  This monochromatic card uses Old Olive ink and card stock, paired with Whisper White.  This would be a great masculine birthday card.  The Old Olive card stock was run through the Big Shot using the square lattice folder found in the Summer Mini.  Of course, the images were from the Tropical Party stamp set.  The sentiment is from the level 3 Hostess Occasional Quotes set found in the NEW catalog on page 14.  The inspiration for this card came from one created by Nancy Brokaw which I viewed on the SU demonstrator only site - Stampin' Connect.

Tropical Party #1

Stampin" Up! has released their new Idea Book and Catalog. To celebrate, I'm hosting a new catalog open house next week at my home. It will be a tropical themed event. In preparation, I had fun playing with the Tropical Party stamp set and tropical designer paper in the Summer Mini catalog. I'll be sharing the results of my "playtime" over the next few posts. Here's my first card.

Card details:  Rose Red card base with Tropical DSP matte.  Each image is stamped on Whisper White and matted with Rose Red card stock.  Circles are punch from Rose Red- 1/2 inch punch and itty bitty punch.

Second day in a row!!

I've really been having fun playing with the "Tropical Party" stamp set.  These 3x3 inch cards were quick and easy to make.  I was just experimenting with the stamps and using the coordinating Tropical Oasis designer paper found in the Summer Mini Catalog.  Designer paper makes it simple to come up with great looking cards with little effort.  The tropical designer paper includes such bright, cheerful colors that really make cards pop!

I'm Baaaccckkk!

Wow - it seems like forever since I have made a blog post.  Life in the "real world" has just been crazy busy.  My son graduated from high school the beginning of June.  His open house was so much fun!!!  The weather was picture perfect (which was a blessing), because the beginning of June it seemed as though it rained every day. What wasn't so much fun was waking up the morning after the open house with no voice!!  Guess my body was telling me that it needed some R and R time.  It turned out to be a virus, which hung on for about 2 1/2 weeks!!  I'm FINALLY feeling better and getting caught up on things that didn't get done around the house when I was sick.  Hopefully, now that things have settled down, I will be more regular at blogging.  Anyway - it's great to be back!

I will be having a Stampin' Up! New Catalog Open House at my home on July 15.  I've been making card samples and getting ready for that event.  This card is one that I came up with, using the Tropical Party stamp set in the Summer 2010 Occasions Mini Catalog.  My Open House will have a tropical theme to it, and in future posts I will be showing you other tropical card samples I have made.

Here are the card details:  Card base is Bashful Blue. After folding the card base, I used the scallop edge punch on both edges of the card.  I started at the center fold, and made sure that there was a full scallop on the card front on top by the fold.  I punched to the card bottom from there, making sure not to punch the last little bit of card front so that the card stock would stay together.  I repeated for the back of the card.  On the inside of the card, I attached two 3/4 inch strips of Night of Navy cardstock on each edge for stability and a nice border on the outside of the card.

I've always loved the lattice square die cut, and thought the tropical flowers and greenery would look wonderful growing on it.  The lattice is out of Soft Suede card stock.  The flowers and greenery were stamped on Whisper White.  Flowers are stamped with Rose Red and then chalked using a sponge dauber, so that the white areas look more pinkish.  Greenery was stamped with Old Olive and also chalked.  I then cut out the stamped images and attached them to the lattice.  I attached all the images to the lattice before adhering the lattice to the card front.
