Project complete!!!

I have completed my birthday card project and truly stand amazed at the awesomeness of God!! My final card count is 200!! What amazes me about this number is that I didn't set out to make any certain amount of cards. I came up with my first idea and used scraps of paper to create that group (read about it here). I then dug through all of my abundant supplies and pulled out anything I had sitting around that had a birthday/celebration theme. That's what I used to make the remainder of my cards I have been posting. I did not keep any tally after counting the first group of cards (120) - just kept on creating with what I found. Today, I came to the end of my stash. After the cards were all packaged and put in the delivery boxes I counted the grand total...and am awestruck that the number is an even 200. It reminds me of Jesus feeding the 5,000 with only five loaves and two fish (John 6:5-14). When I began this project, I never envisioned making 200 cards, but dedicated the task to Him. He took the supplies I gave to His work and multiplied them many times over. And as I worked, He provided the strength for the task and joy in the journey. Great is our Lord and mighty in power! More Birthday Cards

I have really been enjoying making more birthday cards for the outreach our church is sponsoring next month. I have had papers and embellishments languishing in my stash for several years and it feels so wonderful to be using them for such a great mission. Here are two of the cards I have made. I've been "on a mission"

Several weeks ago I posted about the community outreach event our church was helping to sponsor. (You can read it here.) Well, since then, I have literally been "on a mission" to make birthday cards for the event. First I went through all my solid color scrap paper for bright colors and pulled out everything that was the right size for the sentiment and critter mattes. I discovered I had enough scraps to make 120 cards!! My next task was to punch 360 ovals and stamp them with critters. It sounds overwhelming, but I have been constructing these cards gradually over the last few weeks and really enjoyed the project. As I have been working, I have been praying for those who will receive both the cards and other resources the day of the Jubilee. Yes, we want to help meet their physical needs, but ultimately our prayer is that they would see Jesus, the One who can meet ALL their needs, and come into a relationship with Him.

Child's Happy Birthday Card

The sketch on CPS-Card Sketches today lent itself well to this birthday card for a child. I needed a simple idea. Our church will be co-sponsoring a "Jubilee Celebration" with another church in September. The idea behind the event is "to provide much needed blessings and relief to people who need help meeting some of life's most basic necessities." It is a free event and will include a clothing tent, grocery tent, commerce tent (furniture, housewares, gift certificates, etc), children's tent (toys, candy, activities), haircuts, family photos, chair massage and employment booth (as well as other things). Our church is collecting LARGE containers of laundry detergent, as this is an expense that quite often these families can't afford. I have decided that I would love to make some cards for the event. I'm sure that greeting cards are something that are considered a non-essential expense. My goal is to make children's birthday cards, so that families can make a child's birthday special. I'm going to try to make as many as I can, so needed a quick and simple idea. I'm sure that other kinds of cards would be appreciated as well, but have decided to make this my focus for now. The stamp set is from Hero Arts and has many different cute animal faces. They include an elephant, lion, frog, owl, hippo, tiger, koala and others I can't remember. I plan to make many of these cards using the different animals. They are colored with Prisma pencils. The birthday sentiment is SU, but don't know the name. It is the first set I purchased in the early 90's. The oval is a punch that I own. Thanks for stopping by today to take a look. Blessings to you!
